Conway’s Law was observed by Met Conway and made famous in Fred Brooks’ 1975 book The Mythical Man-Month. It states – “Any organisation that designs a system will produce a design whose structure is a copy of the organisation’s communication structure”. Considering the architecture of a piece of software can influence its overall value and usefulness, it follows that giving careful consideration to organisation structure and behaviour is important. However something as fundamental as human behaviour and relationships are not easily corralled. Jame Hull spoke at our Agile Yorkshire event and eloquently explained Conway’s Law, exploring it’s meaning and discussing how it may be harnessed.
